How to remove a password from a PDF you own

Updated 14 October 2026 · DeevitHub PDF

Bank statements, payslips and bills often arrive locked with a password. If you know the password and the document is yours, you can save an unlocked copy so you do not have to type it every time.

Do it now, free and without uploading your file.

Remove the password in three steps

  1. Open Unlock PDF and choose the locked file.
  2. Type the password you normally use to open it.
  3. Download the unlocked copy. The pages stay exactly as they are and the text stays selectable.

The password and the file stay in your browser; neither is uploaded.

What if I do not know the password?

DeevitHub PDF does not guess or break passwords. Banks and employers usually use something you already know, such as part of your account number, date of birth or ID number; the email that came with the PDF normally explains the format. If not, ask the sender.

Editing and printing restrictions

Some PDFs open without a password but block printing, copying or editing. Unlock PDF can remove these restrictions from a file you own as well.

Want to lock it again with your own password?

Use Protect PDF to add a new password. Only remove passwords from documents you own or have permission to change.

Questions

Is it legal to remove a PDF password?

Removing the password from your own document, when you know the password, is normally fine. Do not unlock documents you have no right to.

Will unlocking change the document?

No. Pages, text and layout stay the same; only the password is removed.

Do it now, free and without uploading your file.
